EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Literacy Lab is a fast-paced, Washington, DC-based non-profit organization whose mission is to provide low-income children with individualized reading instruction to improve their literacy skills, leading to greater success in school and increased opportunities in life. We partner with school districts to add capacity in high-need schools to close the literacy achievement gap for children before third grade. The Literacy Lab now seeks nominations and applications for a DC Regional Director to lead its work in the DC metro region with the goal of closing the literacy achievement gap for low-income children in the region.

The Regional Director has responsibility for programs, strategy, partnerships, development, management, and finance in the region. The Regional Director is responsible for developing, managing, and building a strong culture within their team of regional staff members. The Regional Director is a key member of the organization’s leadership and is expected to exemplify The Literacy Lab’s core values and organizational culture while striving to continuously improve the organization and its impact.

Ideal candidates for the role will bring a deep commitment to closing the achievement gap; demonstrated success managing individuals and teams using a relationship-centered approach; a track record of leadership, taking initiative, going above and beyond, and relentlessly pursuing results; strong problem-solving skills, the ability to manage projects with minimal direction, an entrepreneurial growth mindset, and a can-do attitude; and experience working in education, a related field, or with high-need communities preferred.
