EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) is seeking nominations and applications for Chief Financial Officer.

Founded in 1999, CIC is the world’s largest cluster of startups and houses over 1,400 client companies in over 620,000 square feet of premium office and co-working space across five cities and two continents with another 420,000 square feet of space set to be delivered. CIC’s mission is to create innovation communities that support impactful entrepreneurs to “fix the world”. Over the last two decades several successful companies have emerged through CIC including, Google Android, HubSpot and GreatPoint Energy. Recognizing that invention propels innovation, density spurs collaboration, and a shared purpose drives a thriving community, CIC provides innovators a home from which to work and access resources in order to create substantive, positive global impact. In addition to this CIC houses innovation programs for twelve foreign governments, including Germany, Japan, Canada and China. Over the years, at least US$5.5 billion has been invested in startups located in CIC’s facilities and at least 40,000 high-value-add jobs have been created by these startups.

CIC is currently developing campuses in seven additional cities globally, and plans to grow to 50 cities over the next 10 years.

With this exciting growth in mind, CIC seeks a seasoned Chief Financial Officer to help grow the organization. CIC currently has approximately 210 employees spread across four countries. The CFO will be responsible for the organization’s capital strategy and financial management functions.  The successful candidate will forecast the company’s needs for capital to support growth, create and execute a capital formation plan, build and manage relationships with capital partners, provide oversight for the company’s Controller and finance team, and guide the creation and implementation of new financial systems and processes.

Putting in place the right new finance systems and processes will serve as an essential platform for optimizing the existing business as well as raising funds for the future.  The ideal CFO will be experienced in both capital raising and financial management, with the ability to build the kind of controls, reporting, and forecasting capabilities that will support the creative capital strategy the company will wish to consider. The CFO will have a good grasp of how to successfully manage and optimize the company’s capital and assets. This individual should understand capital asset structures and can be creative and smart about our options. Optionally, a CFO with the relevant background and experience might also oversee other critical core infrastructure for CIC including the company’s technology and human resources functions.

She or he should be a seasoned executive with experience managing the financial and potentially other core infrastructure of a high-performance organization. The ideal CFO candidate will bring successful experience in the growth and management of a global enterprise on the scale of CIC or larger.  For more information about this exciting opportunity, please send inquiries to: CFOsearch@cic.com
